From past experience, problems concerning the studies at a university – like understanding abstract text, question- phrases and the German academic ways in general – arise from the first semester of regular studies. To avoid bad marks because of misunderstanding there are programmes to support students from a different university-culture:
• The „Kompass“ programme offered by the International Office of the University of Bremen offers support through mentors in your specific faculty. www.io.uni-bremen.de/studiumbremen/kompass.php3
• There are decentralised Consultation offices in the various faculties of the university.
• Students´ commitees (Studiengangsausschüsse- StugA ) in the faculties.
• AISA; This is the Organ for international Students at the University of Bremen.
• Departmental International Offices of the Bremen University of Applied Sciences. www.hs-bremen.de/internet/de/international/office/team
• International Office of the “Hochschule Bremerhaven”.
• At the University of the Arts Bremen, the deans of the faculties are the first point of contact in case one encounters problems.
In most faculties, you will find a reference person for international students. Take a look at the Homepage of your faculty.
Information concerning the recognition of foreign university degrees can be found, among other sources, in the anabin data base. www.anabin.de
